Pre-match scalping is a very effective form of trading. If you are able to anticipate price movements, you can bank profits before a ball is even kicked. You are then free to either bank the profit or use it to trade in-play with no risk of making a loss.
Unfortunately, Betfair graphs don't do the job. There's only one team showing, no timeline and you need to click through page after page in order to monitor multiple matches.
We addressed those issues by building our own price movement tracking which provides all of the information needed to scalp the football markets successfully.
Unlike horse racing markets where 99% of the scalping action takes place right before the off and prices are bouncing about all over the place, football markets tend to drag it out a lot more. The key time is one hour before kick-off when team news is released and cup matches provide fantastic opportunities, especially in earlier rounds.
Since it was launched in May 2016, the Pre-Match Scalping Module has proven to be a huge hit. A number of members have started to make all of their profit by scalping only, while others are using scalp profits to trade in-play much more aggressively.
Pre-Match Scalping Example
Here is a simple scalp which the module identified.
Seattle had been trading around the 1.48 - 1.50 mark for hours which showed very definite floor and ceiling prices. This screenshot was taken right before kick-off, to show that they didn't move at all from that small range.

During the hour before kick-off, I layed at 1.48 and backed at 1.50 for £1,000 each. It was only £480 liability and, because this is pre-match, it was never at risk. Once both positions were matched, I had a free £20 bet on Seattle.

The home team went 1-0 up during the first half and I greened up across the board to secure a profit no matter what. A low-risk scalp, really quick and easy profit in the bank.

Steamers & Drifters
There are times when a market will keep on moving in the same direction and you are able to ride the movement. They usually happen when team news is announced, around an hour before kick-off, and when you catch one your profit will be much, much larger.

Also, markets can start moving earlier if rumours start to circulate about key players missing.

Many scalpers monitor Twitter and other news sources, searching for breaking news which allow them to jump ahead of the market. We have lists of official club Twitter accounts - click here - set up for you to use.
There are so many ways to exploit price movement, the key is having the right market information all on one screen.

FAQs
Q. Do I need trading software in order to scalp?
A. Definitely! Apart from being able to trade out in seconds, you can set automatic stop losses which protect you. We have an exclusive deal with Fairbot - click here - whereby you can get 15 months for the price of 12.
Q. Do I need to sit in front of my screen for hours on end?
A. No. Quite often, there are a large number of cup matches scheduled to start at the same time, so start monitoring the markets just over an hour before kick-off and take advantage of team news movements. Within 30-45 minutes you'll be done or you'll have set up stop-losses so you can get on with other things.
Other scalping techniques can take longer but, again, you can set stop-losses. There have been times when I've sat down to watch a movie while scalping and made a good profit with my laptop on my knees.
Q. Do I need a large bank?
A. Not necessarily, because you can go in with a large proportion of your bank. As long as you set stop-losses you are not risking the whole amount, only as much as you are comfortable with. In the hour before the FA Cup Final as Man United were drifting, I put more than £25,000 through the market but I would never have let it go in-play risking that much!
It makes absolute sense to have a back-up plan in place while scalping, in case you lose power or Betfair goes down. Make sure your phone is fully charged and the Betfair app is installed, or that there is a public wifi network locally you can jump on with your laptop - perhaps a Starbucks close by. Also, set up a Smarkets or Matchbook account which you can use in an emergency. Hope for the best, but plan for the worst.
Q. Do I need football knowledge to scalp?
A. It can definitely help with some strategies - perhaps team news - but most rely on patterns which often repeat. As you get into scalping, you start to recognise graph shapes and have a good idea of where the line is going next.
Q. I'm a bit of a gambler, do I need discipline?
A. Yes! If you are not able to accept managed losses when markets go against you or you are tempted to let a scalp go in-play, this is not for you.
Q. I haven't scalped before, is this for me?
A. Yes, football markets are a good introduction to scalping. Horse racing markets are pretty daunting and football will put you under far less pressure. Kevin has posted six strategies to get you started and, as always, he's at the end of an email to answer any questions you have.
Q. Will there be selections/tips?
A. No, that would be impossible. Imagine lots of members piling in to back a team because there's been a tip that the price is going to move in. All that money coming into the market is going to put downward pressure on the price which is the exact opposite of what you want.
Q. Why is "weight of money" not shown?
A. Weight of money does not have as much influence on football markets as it does faster moving markets, such as horse racing. Besides, trading software - such as Fairbot - updates 'WoM' much faster than we could ever get close to.
Q. Is the Pre-Match Scalping Module available outside of Goal Profits?
A. No, it is available to members only. If you cancel your membership, you will no longer have access to the Pre-Match Scalping Module either.
